Mixtape : Slumbers

Wolf, 2013

Wolf, 2013

Tyler the creator takes on personalities to mock the uninformed psycho history surrounding black people. He also uses characters to dissect mindset of "good guys" and toxic masculinity. This song doesn't include characters but instead seems to be him totally getting into himself and his accomplishments.
It is nice to see an artist appreciate himself and clarify his intentions, even when he isn't obligated. This track inspires us because of the energy, confidence and floopy goobers. All you need.

Age of Adz, 2010

Age of Adz, 2010

This song speaks to the struggle to be mentally healthy for us. Sufjan, as always, created a beautiful and complex track. The repetition of "I want to be well" speaks to the intense and repetitive struggle to be healthy. Age of Adz is an album all of us have listened to on repeat for days. The whole album is so beautiful and quite a trip.

Frankie Cosmos is honest, sarcastic, and good to dance to. If there is any band we'd want to be in besides Slumbers, it would probably be Frankie Cosmos.
This song specifically speaks to quiet observation and often disliking the world or social scene around us. It can be hard to like things when you are stuck in a bad feeling. It is inspiring to us because it seems to be in tune with confusing emotions while questioning the negative outlook that brings bad times.

Feel good forever. Never not going to rock out to this in the car.

Florist always seems to make beautifully weary music. This song brings us back to our childhoods. It also makes us think about how much we changed our values and beliefs since that time. Again, the honesty and honing in on confusing thoughts and feelings inspires us. The song, to us, is about accepting that like isn't predictable but that is okay.

Just listen and you too, you will be inspired by this song.

All of these songs reflect our wide range of influence. We all listen to quite a variety of music. We like honest lyrics but also love hip beats and songs that remind us of the beginning years of our friendship.

Come Over, 2016

Come Over, 2016

Slumbers make simple songs for complicated people. Those who keep asking questions about everything. Those who have trouble to be happy. Those who feel lonely in a crowded place. Just listen to the heartbreaking lyrics and the saxophone in "Battle" and you too will fall in love with this talented band.
